Taking Care of Our Neighbors

All too often you hear stories about elderly without family living near them, or any family left at all, to check on their well-being on a regular basis, or to help them in times of financial strain.  That’s when the Adult Protective Services department steps up, if and when they are alerted to a situation.  Such is the case with Mr. Brown, a Boerne, TX native.

Mr. Brown had been without heating and air conditioning for over a year, not having the means to have his HVAC system repaired, let alone replaced.  In situations like this, APS caseworkers focus on the best way to assure the health and safety of their clients.   APS Specialist Trisha Marquiss promptly reached out to contractors in the area to obtain bids to repair his equipment.

It is the kind of case that APS would become involved in, because the agency protects the elderly and adults with disabilities from abuse, neglect and exploitation.  When APS caseworkers realize that a client needs assistance, they make every attempt to arrange services to alleviate the problem.  Elder abuse and neglect is everyone’s business.  To report it, please call the Texas Abuse Hotline at 1-800-252-5400 or visit https://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Contact_Us/locations.asp?r=8 to find your local office.

As soon as APS Specialist Marquiss reached out to Boerne Air Conditioning and Heating and explained the situation, Mark Finch knew he needed to help. With over 35 years of doing business in, and living in, Boerne, TX, Boerne Air Conditioning stepped up to the plate and offered to donate the equipment and labor to install a brand new Rheem heating and air conditioning system.

Boerne Air Conditioning never had any expectations of the state pitching in, or anyone else for that matter, it was simply the right thing to do.  Since then, Rheem Manufacturing Company agreed to donate the equipment, and Boerne Air Conditioning and Heating donated the labor to install the new system.

Mr. Brown’s home now has a brand new 2.5 TON 14 SEER Rheem heating and air conditioning system, compliments of Rheem and Boerne Air Conditioning.  Boerne Air Conditioning is also donating annual service agreements for as long as Mr. Brown lives in his home, so he doesn’t have to worry about his system breaking down again.

In light of Mr. Brown’s situation, Boerne Air Conditioning & Heating would like to offer you the opportunity to help someone in need, or just the opportunity to let someone know you’re looking out for them.  During the month of May, if you purchase a Service Agreement for a family member, anyone you know may be struggling, or an elder that doesn’t have family nearby, we’ll give you 10% off your next maintenance or service call- just mention you read this article.  Don’t let a friend or family member suffer without heating or air conditioning the way Mr. Brown did.
